Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born ca February 1783 in Devon

ADM51/3543 Log of HMS Storeship Weymouth
Friday 17 March 1820: Departed this life William FORWARD settlers child. Body of the above infant to the deep.
Monday 27 March 1820: Departed this life Sarah FORWARD settlers wife. Committed the body of the above woman to the deep.

Weymouth Log lists William's first wife as Sarah. The Settler Returns list her as Elizabeth.


William was a mason and wrote a letter to the Government from Trowbridge, Wiltshire in 1819. There is a possible baptism for William, the son who died on the Weymouth, of a William Roger FORWARD, son of William (bricklayer) and Elizabeth, in Trowbridge, Wiltshire on 22 February 1818.
