This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of parish registers held at the London Metropolitan Archives, Westminster Archives, West Yorkshire Archives, Manchester Central Library, non-conformist registers at the National Archives at Kew (RG4), online parish registers at CityArk or from original images at Family Search. I have also included some information from original images of Scottish old parish registers and English parish records which I have personally researched. Edward Ephraim POTE (father)

Adm. (age 17) at King's, a Scholar from Eton, Jan. 24, 1769. [Yst. s. of Joseph, bookseller at Eton (and Anne, dau. of Thomas Bartlett, bookseller). B. at Eton.] Bapt. Dec. 17, 1750. Matric. Michs. 1769; B.A. 1773. Fellow, 1772-89. Asked leave of the Provost, Feb. 11, 1772, to go as a Writer to the East Indies, but was refused permission as his absence would have been inconsistent with his College duties. Joined the H.E.I.C.S. soon after taking his degree, however, and was for many years resident at Patna, Bengal. Junior Merchant and Commercial Resident at Rungpore, 1778. Resigned, 1809. Died Nov. 24, 1832, aged 82, at Norton, near Worksop. Bequeathed his collection of Oriental MSS. to Eton and King's College. (Eton Coll. Reg.; G. Mag., 1832, II. 484; V. Hodson.)

The Humble Petition of Edw. Ephraim POTE sheweth that Your Petitioner hath been educated in Writing and Accounts and humbly hopes himself qualified to serve Your Honors abroad. He therefore most humbly prays Your Honors would be pleased to appoint him a Writer at one of your Settlements in the East Indies wherein he promises to behave with the greatest diligence and fidelity and is ready to give such Security as Your Honors shall be pleased to require. And Your Petitioner shall ever pray &c.
