This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of parish registers held at the London Metropolitan Archives, Westminster Archives, West Yorkshire Archives, Manchester Central Library, non-conformist registers at the National Archives at Kew (RG4), online parish registers at CityArk or from original images at Family Search. I have also included some information from original images of Scottish old parish registers and English parish records which I have personally researched. Joseph Edward WILMOT and his younger brother George William both sailed on the Aurora in 1820. Their sister Sarah came out to the Cape later as Sarah PARR ca 1828. They were the children of Joseph WILMOT and Sarah BATE.

Etherington, son of Joseph and Sarah WILMOT, baptised 23 March 1794 in St.Pancras Parish Church (born 22 February)

Sarah, daughter of Joseph and Sarah WILMOT, baptised 31 August 1796 in St.Pancras Parish Church (born 17 July)

William, son of Joseph and Sarah WILMOT, baptised 12 April 1801 in St.Pancras Parish Church (born 5 June 1799)

Baptism of George not found.

 

Joseph Edward WILMOT married Ann ROUTLEDGE on 31 January 1818 in St.Martin in the Fields.

Both signed their names.

Witnesses: Wm.SMITH and Sarah SMITH

 

Correspondence of Edward WYNNE (CO48/46) indicates that Joseph and Ann had a son called Joseph who was 10 months old in September 1819. Shortly after this both Joseph and Ann must have died, although Ann remains listed as Joseph's wife on the settler returns. In fact it was Susannah who emigrated as his wife.

 

Joseph Edward WILMOT married Susannah RICHMOND on 27 December 1819 in St.Martin in the Fields.

Both signed their names.

Sarah WILMOT sailed for the Cape ca 1828 following her marriage. All her children were born in South Africa. Her first daughter, Elizabeth Ellen PARR, baptised 20 December 1840 in Grahamstown, was born on 17 October 1829 at the Cape.
