Pictures of Gravestones
The gravestone collection is part of the download library and provides very important information to those of us doing family research. We have over 70,000 gravestones on the web – our aim is 100,000 pictures by the end of 2008.
The pictures have all been donated, by eGGSA members and non-members alike. The size of individual contributions varies from single photographs arriving via e-mail to thousands on CD. Once the photos are uploaded to the web a group of volunteers goes to work reading the inscriptions and giving an appropriate caption to each picture.
Finding a grave on our webpage is easy:
Go to the province and look for the town or farm
or simply use the Search Engine

We now have photographs from too many cemeteries to be able to list them here but you will find them arranged under each South African province and then by town, so they are not difficult to locate. There is, additionally, a search facility enabling you to look for all gravestones of a particular surname.
