James Ramsey Caithness was originally from England (born 1816 at Eling, near Southampton), and settled in South Africa in the early 1840’s in Cape Town but moved to Port Elizabeth. He was a Master Mariner/Captain. His funeral took place at St.Mary’s in Port Elizabeth in 1860.
