Volume 19 Issue 1/2003
It has been decided, in order to reduce postage and paper costs, to e-mail our newsletter where possible and in order to do this a simplified format was necessary. The file has been prepared as a “rtf” (rich text format) which can either be opened in Microsoft WordPad or Word whichever you prefer. This method will facilitate members without Microsoft Office/Word.
At the AGM held on
Saturday the 18th, the President thanked the Committee for their
contribution during 2002 and in particular Graham Bode for his duties as
Treasurer. Although Graham has handed
this function over to Joan Rachmann he will stay on the Committee for the
coming year. New members elected onto
the Committee are Jaq Benadie and Paul du Plessis.
Our thanks were
also extended to Jenny Harries and the Family History Centre for the use of
their facilities.
The finances of
our Branch were discussed. The balance
sheet is available for any member who wishes to see this document.
The past year was
reviewed and in particular the Pietermaritzburg Archives and the poor response
received to the questionnaire sent out with our 3rd Newsletter. It was decided to make no changes to our
diary of events.
A course
commencing on Monday, February 17th, headed “Introduction to Genealogical
Research in South Africa & Britain” conducted by Colin Jermy of the
University of Natal was discussed.
The full Committee
for 2003/2004 will be listed elsewhere in this publication.

Our thanks go to Jaq Benadie for his donation of the computer disc, Genealogical Programs & Utilities. As the title implies, this has a number of programs and utilities, which can be invaluable in the recording, and researching of our family tree. Please see Anne if you wish to borrow this disc. Please note, one needs a current virus protection system so that it is returned to our library free of any viruses.
