Additonal Information

This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of UK parish registers and other primary sources which I have personally researched. Further information about the settlers and their families once they reached the Cape can be found at https://www.1820settlers.com/

EVANS, Charles - Extra Data

(member of COCK's Party)

See application to emigrate.

Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Herefordshire, son of Charles and Elizabeth.

A letter written in 1825 shows that he had a brother William, who was living in Presteigne, just over the border from Herefordshire.

Family Search

Charles son of Charles and Elizabeth EVANS baptised 31 December 1774 Wigmore, Herefordshire

William son of Charles and Elizabeth EVANS baptised 1 August 1776 Wigmore, Herefordshire

Charles EVANS and Elizabeth GALLIERS were married on 20 December 1773 in Leintwardine, Herefordshire

Another letter from his son Charles, written in 1824, implies that he deserted his wife and family prior to 1820. Mary EVANS was only 26 when the Weymouth sailed, so she was presumably not the mother of Charles' children. None of the children sailed. Possible baptisms below.
