Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Longford, Ireland ca 1769, the son of William and Margaret SCANLAN

 

He was in the Longford Yeomanry. See correspondence.

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) for his son Charles says that his wife's maiden name was Hannah ROSS
