Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Salisbury on 19 September 1788, the son of William POTTER and Lydia HILL. His wife's name was Hannah GOODCHILD, she being his second wife.

Banns of marriage were called between William POTTER and Hannah GOODCHILD in St.Mary's, Battersea, Borough of Wandsworth, on 10th, 17th and 24th November 1816

 

The Settler Handbook lists his two children as Mary and Anne, whereas his DN says that his two children by his first marriage were Mary and Lydia.

Lydia daughter of William and Mary POTTER, James Street, carpenter, born 8th August 1810, was baptised 27 June 1813 in St.Mary Abbot's Church, Kensington

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) for Mary POTTER says she died in 1900 aged 92, putting her birth ca 1808. Hannah GOODCHILD is listed as the mother but that is probably because she was the woman known to the descendants at the Cape.
