pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

We the undermentioned names comply according Earl BATHURST request to go as settlers to the Colony if accepted & terms satisfactory

I beg leave to state to Lordship that we being Baptist desenters & having sent in a letter wishing to go as settlers to the Colleny beg leave to state to your Lordship that we have a capital of upwards of one thousand pounds & if charactor or recommendation is necessary we give a refferance to the Rev Jas. IVIMEY, No.20 Harper St Red Lion Square. We remain your Lordship's most obedient and humble servants
