pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Sir,

I have made aplication to you that I wish for a situation to goe to the Cape of Good Hope to be one of the Inhabitasion of that Place. I ham a labering man.I have no wife nor child. My age 31

So I ham your humbill servant

Sir,

I have aproved of your proposalls. So far it do not lay in my power to take the persons out above mentioned for I ham but a pore labering man wishing to be come a settler at the Cape. I ham your humble servant
