pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

July 26th 1819

Honoured Sir,

I was desired at your office yesterday to leave a few lines to inform you of my occupation Age &c. My age is Twenty One and servin my time To a Tobacconist and Sigar Makeing. I have a Wife but no Children, and we are both desirous to try our fortune a the Cape if [Page torn] Terms is any ways Suitable so as we May have hopes of being any ways compatible to ourselves and Beneficiant to the Collony, our Ressidence is at No 33 Holywill Street Strand.
