Sir,
In consequence of the offer of His Majesty's Government to give encouragement to persons desirous of settling in the colony of the Cape I most respectfully offer myself to your notice as a candidate for the proposed grant. I am 35 years of age. I was in the farming business until I was 25 years of age. Married without children. I be so fortunate as to become an object of your choise the most satisfactory refferences can be given to my ability and general caracter. I further humbly submit to your pleasure that I will either take ten persons of your one [own] choosing or select the same myself. The necessary deposit can immediately be furnished.
