pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Sir,

I am about to proceed to the New Colony at the Cape of Good Hope with Mr. Thomas WILSON of Bridge Cottage Chelsea Water Works, myself paying the deposit of 10 Pounds according to Government regulations and 5 Pounds for implements and other stores.

I should wish to know if it is in the power of the said Mr. WILSON to grant to me the proportion of land to me my heirs and successors for ever before we leave England.

I have the honor be with due respect your Lordship most obedient humble servant
