pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Honoured Sir,

Edward LOAGAN, wife and 3 children is disirious of immigrating to his Majesties Colonies in The Cape of good Hope he is a labouring man and about the age of 31 and strong and healthy with all and brought up to the Farming Business Since he was able to work he is ready at yor honours call at a moments notice and if a reference is required he can have a Good One he now lives at No.16 Gees Court Oxford Street Marylebone
