Gentlemen,

Having a wife and [ink blot obscuring number] small children and having scarce any imployment or prospect of gaining a sufficient withall to subsist them or myself without being obliged to become burthensome to the parish, take this opportunity of presenting myself to your notice as one who would gladly imbrace the opportunity offered by Colonial Department of becoming a settler abroad upon the plan now in agitation by and adopted by Government and your Colonial Department.
