My Lord,
Having spent the early part of my life in agricultural and the subsequent period in commercial pursuits and being unable from the want of capital and the peculiar difficulty of the times to gain a livelyhood for myself and family I am desirous to emigrate to His Majesty's colony the Cape good hope and have therefore taken the liberty to solicit your Lordship to furnish me with the terms upon which His Majesty's Ministers are disposed to take out settlers to that colony. Hoping your Lordship will favour me with an early reply, I remain my Lord
Your Lordship's most obed't humble serv't
