My Lord,
Being an Architect and Surveyor I have taken the liberty of apprizing your Lordship that I should have no objection to go out to the Cape of Good Hope in any capacity HM Ministers should conceive requisite.
If my Lord that my services should be accepted the emoluments arising from such an office should be of no object to me but that of having a wish of forwarding the views of HM Government, as well as rendering assistance to my countrymen who are about to emigrate to the Cape. I have the honor to remain my Lord
Your Lordship's most obedient & very humble servant
Thomas SMYTHE
