pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Hon Sir,

May I request the favour of you to allow your clerk to make an enquiry for me in Lord BATHURST's office.

A young man of the name Frederick George RANN (who was formerly in my service) is going out as a settler to the Cape of Good Hope on the ship Stentor from this port. I have paid ten pounds to a Mr. NEAVE as the deposit with Government. I wish to ascertain if his name is regularly entered in the books at the Colonial Office & if the proper document as to the port of [obscured is sent down here. If it is not already done I should wish it sent down to me as you may safely inform them the deposit is regularly paid & I have Mr. NEAVE's receipt for the same. Accept my thanks for all the trouble I give you & be assured I am
