Pennington, Salt Pans

Pennington, Salt Pans
1st March 2019

Tidal inlet near Lower Pennington. This area was once the home of the salt industry. Salt pans were flooded with sea water and allowed to evaporate. Charles JORDAN and Mary BENNETT, parents of the settler Charles JORDAN, were married in Pennington, but not in the current parish church of St.Mark's, which dates from the Victorian era. There was a chantry chapel dedicated to St.Mary Magdalene where the marriage probably took place.
