Bristol Cathedral originated as a monastery, St.Augustine's Abbey, founded in 1140. After the dissolution of the monasteries it became Bristol Cathedral in 1542. The two towers at the west end seen here, however, were only completed in 1888. Nevertheless, the cathedral would have been a landmark for all the Bristol settlers, though none were baptised or married here as far as I know.
