Our Lady and St.Nicholas Church and St.George's Basin c 1824, from an engraving by H.Meyer. On Sunday 11 February 1810 the spire collapsed into the nave during a service, killing 25 people. The church was badly damaged in WW2 but rebuilt. William BOLD and Mary SOUTHWARD (parents of John BOLD the Settler) were married in St.Nicholas, as were James KIDD and Ann JENKINS, and Charles TUDOR and Bridget PARKER. Helen and Margaret HIGHAM, stepdaughters of William GRIFFITH, were baptised here in 1805 and 1807. Pictures of the original church in 1750 and before the collapse of the spire in 1810 can be found here.
