On the 23rd instant, at the Lewisham High-road Congregational Church, by the Rev. J. Stockwell WATTS, of London, brother of the bridegroom, Philip WATTS F.R.S.N.A., of the Admiralty, to Elisa Isabelle, eldest daughter of the late Gustave Adolphus SIMONAU, of Brussels, Chevalier de l’Ordre de Léopold, member of the British Institute of Fine Arts &c.

DIED on the 13th inst. at the Family Residence, Donkin-street, Port Elizabeth, after a severe and protracted illness, which she bore with Christian resignation and fortitude, Mary, the beloved wife of James William STROD Esq. M.B., aged 40 years, leaving a large family and a circle of friends to mourn her decease.

DEATH OF MR. P. SCALLAN
We regret to announce the death on Christmas Day of Mr. Patrick SCALLAN, of Main-street, Port Elizabeth, after but a few days’ illness, from inflammation of the bowels. The deceased, who was 53 years of age, was known to a very large circle of acquaintances, not only in Port Elizabeth, but throughout the surrounding district; and many a local sportsman has pleasant reminiscences of hunting expeditions of which he was the prime organiser and moving spirit. The deceased leaves behind him a wife and numerous family, and we feel sure that all his many friends feel the warmest sympathy for them in their bereavement. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, and was attended by many members of St.Patrick’s Society, of which deceased was an honorary member, and numerous other friends, who were anxious to show a last tribute of respect and esteem to their departed friend.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT
A very serious accident befell a Mrs. GORDON on Wednesday last, on the Hill near the shop of Mr. ALABASTER, through the careless driving of a coloured boy, in charge of a milk cart belonging to Mr. PARKIN, of Baaken’s River Farm. The poor woman was knocked down, the cart and horse passing over her body, smashing two or three toes on one foot, besides lacerating and bruising her in other places. Mr. William NIXON, with commendable promptitude, conveyed the unfortunate creature to her house, where she now lies in a precarious state.
