MARRIED at Cradock on the 15th June 1840 by the Rev. John TAYLOR, Robert MacLachan ARMSTRONG Esq, District Surgeon, to Jane Agnes Mary, eldest daughter of the Rev. John TAYLOR, Minister of the Dutch Reformed Church, Cradock.

DIED on the 29th ult, Wm. R. McMASTER aged 2 years, youngest son of Mr.Joseph McMASTER of this place.

DIED at Graaff-Reinet on Monday 29th ult, after a painful illness of three months, Ann, the Wife of Mr.John RAFFERTY of Sunday's River, aged 40 years, leaving a husband and seven children to lament her loss.

Mr.Christopher DALE begs to acquaint the Inhabitants of Uitenhage that he will attend on the 20th of the present Month for the purpose of Tuning and regulating Pianoforte and other Musical Instruments. Attendance will be given at Port Elizabeth on the 27th for the same purpose. Mr. DALE’s absence from Graham’s Town being limited, he respectfully solicits immediate applications to be left at the Residence of Mr. STREAKS, Uitenhage, and Mr. HINDS, Port Elizabeth.

DIED at Bathurst on Wednesday the 22nd inst. in the 69th year of his age, Mr.Thomas HARTLEY, well known to every inhabitant and generally every visitor of the British Settlement of Albany, as the Proprietor of the well-known House of Accommodation in the romantic and beautiful village of Bathurst. He laboured for some time before his death under a most painful
affliction, which he bore with exemplary fortitude and resignation. Few men in this part of the Colony were better known or more generally esteemed than the deceased. The cheerfulness and amenity of his manners, his incessant activity and his general intelligence make his loss a subject of general regret, and will embalm his memory in the hearts of his surviving relatives and of his many personal friends and acquaintances. The consolations of the Bible were his support in affliction and his hope in death.

DIED at Graham's Town on Monday last, the 3rd inst. of Brain Fever, Mr. E.J. TOWNSEND at the early age of 30 years. Deceased was held in much esteem as an upright Tradesman and an intelligent man. He has left an amiable Wife to deplore the loss of a most affectionate Husband - a young Family of a tender Parent; while the Church to which he was united (the Independents) is deprived of one of its most active and valuable members, and the world at large of a good and useful citizen.

DIED at Somerset at the residence of Mr. Thos. BRUTON on the 26th November, Charlotte Ann, daughter of Mr. Edward Ford HOWARD, aged 2 years 7 months. And on the 22nd December Sarah Ann, daughter of Mr. Thomas BRUTON, aged 5 years 4 months, both of fever.
