Tuesday [sic] 3 July 1863

DIED of Bronchitis and Typhoid Fever on Friday 26th June 1863, at his residence in Hill-street, Mr. Joseph W. YELLING. Deceased was for many years a respected inhabitant of this city; he died in the 57th year of his age, leaving a widow and three children to mourn their loss.

BIRTH at Fair Lawn on Sunday the 5th inst, Mrs J.H. GREATHEAD of a son.

DIED at Cullendale near Bedford on the 30th June, Harry, second son of William and Mary HOCKLY, aged 4 years and 7 months.

DIED after a short illness of 14 days, Dinah, second daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth GRADWELL of Palmiet Fontein, Graaff-Reinet, aged 18 years 5 months and 9 days. Her end was peace. Friends at a distance please accept this notice.

BIRTH at St. John's River on the 11th June 1863, the wife of Mr. F. HUGHES of a daughter.

DIED by drowning at St. John's River on the 26th June 1863, James Collie, second son of Mr. F. HUGHES, aged 11 years.

DIED on the 8th instant at his son's farm Begha Mouth, division of Peddie, Thomas NELSON Senior, original Settler of 1820. Aged 77 years and 3 months. Deeply and sincerely lamented by his aged widow and children.

DIED at Somerset East on the 10th July 1863, Paul Jacobus MARE, aged 65 years and 5 months, leaving a widow and eight children to deplore his irreparable loss.

DIED at Philippolis, Orange Free State, May 7th, after a painful illness of 20 hours, Timothy Swain Mills KNIGHT, eldest son of the late Captain KNIGHT, 7th Dragoon Guards, at the age of 37 years, leaving a widow with four children.

DIED at Table Farm, Albany on the 25th inst, Edward DAMANT, aged 79 years.

DIED on Saturday 25th inst, of Diphtheria, Alice Amie Martha, daughter of C.H. CALDECOTT, West Hill House, this City. Aged 5 years and 10 months.

MARRIED in Commemoration Chapel on the 29th inst, Peter Cornelis VAN NIEKERK Esq of Oliphant's Hoek to Miss Charlotte Grove DUNSTERVILLE, fourth daughter of the late Captain Henry DUNSTERVILLE, formerly Harbour Master of Algoa Bay.

DIED at Queenstown on the 24th instant, Ethel Amelia, the beloved child of Frederick BROWN; aged nine months.

DIED at Port Alfred on Tuesday the 28th July, Mr. Edward IRVING, Resident Engineer to the Kowie Harbour Works, aged 38 years.

BIRTH this morning, 7th instant, Mrs. John WEDDERBURN of a daughter.

MARRIED at the Wesleyan Commemoration Chapel, Grahamstown, on Tuesday the 4th inst by the Rev G. Chapman, Mr. John ANDREWS, late of Bayswater, London, to Amelia Jane Couch PRAED, eldest daughter of Mr. James PRAED of this City. No cards.

DIED at Aliwal North on the morning of the 31st July, Mary Ann NORDEN, the beloved child of Mr. L. NORDEN, aged 3 months and 6 days.

DIED on the 3rd instant at his residence in Prince Alfred-street, George MONTAGU Esq, Deputy Surveyor General, aged 37 years. Mr. MONTAGU was a son of the late Honorable John MONTAGU Esq, Colonial Secretary of the Colony. His loss, both in official and private life, will long be deeply felt and deplored by all who knew him.

DIED at Fort England, Grahamstown, on Tuesday the 4th August 1863, Harriet (born GODDARD), wife of Mr. Michael HARTY, aged 54 years and 1 month. Deceased came to this Colony with her parents in 1820; and though passing through all the hardships and trials to which the early Settlers were exposed, she bore them all with cheerfulness, and met her last end with humble resignation to the Divine will. She leaves a husband and 8 children to mourn her death. Friends will please accept of this notice.

DIED on Sunday the 9th August, Jane, widow of the late Daniel VENABLES, aged 84 years. Deceased came to this Colony with the Settlers of 1820. Her end was peace.

MARRIED in the Commemoration Chapel, Grahamstown on Thursday the 20th August 1863, by the Rev G Chapman, Edward Perks SHINGLER to Harriet, third daughter of Thomas Francis KING Esq.

MARRIED on the 13th August at St.George's Cathedral, Grahamstown, by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, W.J.B. MARTIN Esq, HM 10th Regt, to Ida, second daughter of Dr. W.G. ATHERSTONE.

DIED August 17th, David William Iverson HUME, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. HUME Jun, Hilton; aged 1 year 11 months and 14 days.

DIED near East London on Wednesday the 12th inst, Mrs. Elizabeth GUNN, the relict of the late Mr. J.J. GUNN, for many years Serjeant-Major C.M. Rifles and Barrack Serjeant of this City. Deceased was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. James USHER of Grahamstown. But though "childish some time" by her expressions she dwelt on her Saviour in all her wanderings. She was buried in the Churchyard in East London by the Rev Mr Wallace, and followed by her sons and the principal inhabitants of that Port to her last resting place. MARRIED on the 1st September 1863 at the Cathedral, Grahamstown, by the Right Rev the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, Commissary-General W.H. DRAKE CB, Knight of the Legion of Honor, Officer of the Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazare, and of the Medjidie &c &c, to Elizabeth Lucy, daughter of the Hon'ble George WOOD, Member of the Legislative Council, of Woodville House in this City.

MARRIED June 23rdat St.John the Evangelist, Redland, Bristol, by the Rev W.F. FISHER, Cousin of the Bride, J. SLATER Esq of Hampton Park, Bristol to Dorathea Mounsey, eldest daughter of the late Rev Edward COOK, Wesleyan Missionary, South Africa.

DIED on the 29th August in Grahamstown, at the residence of her Nephew W.H. GARNER, Agnes HINDE, aged 81 years; she was for nearly half a century a Member of the Methodist Society. Her end was peace.

DIED at Wapping Wall, London on the 5th July, Mr. William L. WELLS, aged 74 years; leaving a wife and seven children to mourn their loss.

Friday 4 September 1863

DIED at Crediton, Devonshire, in the house of his father, on July 2nd, aged 22, Mr. R.H. DYMOND, late of Grahamstown. With a faint hope of regaining health he had returned to England, where only three weeks after his arrival he breathed his last. Throughout his long affliction he was graciously sustained by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and died in hope of a blessed immortality.

DIED at Grahamstown on the 24th September, Rowland Hill, infant son of Jonathan and Matilda Ann WEBB, aged 5 weeks.
