FIRTH-HOARE. To Mr and Mrs FIRTH-HOARE, 43 Lloyd Road, Walmer, at the Provincial Hospital on 3rd September, 1939, a daughter.


ENGAGEMENTS.

BOUGHTON – PASSMORE. The engagement is announced between Ruth, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W.A. BOUGHTON of Cradock, and Bill, youngest son of Mr and Mrs E.S. PASSMORE, late of Kimberley.

COETZEE – VAN DER HOVEN. The engagement is announced of Bettie, only daughter of Mrs M. VAN DER HOVEN and the late Mr C.W. VAN DER HOVEN, to George, son of Mr and Mrs P.H. COETZEE, District Humansdorp.

LEVITAN – KATZ. The engagement is announced between Simon LEVITAN, of Port Elizabeth second son of Mr and Mrs I. LEVITAN, of Lithuania, to Sally, daughter of Mr and the late Mrs A. KATZ, of Paarl.

TAYLOR – PRIEST. The engagement is announced between Doris Enid, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs F. PRIEST, and James William, second son of Mr and Mrs W.L. TAYLOR, of Port Elizabeth.


MARRIED.

WARTSKI – CLOSENBERG. The marriage of Rita WARTSKI, daughter of Mrs Maurice COHEN and the late Leslie WARTSKI, to Harry, son of Mr and Mrs D. CLOSENBERG, took place on the 3rd September at 10.30 a.m. at the Yeoville Synagogue.


DEATHS.

JOHNS. Passed peacefully away at the Provincial Hospital, on the 4th September, 1939, Harold JOHNS aged 58 years. Funeral will leave 53 Mitchell Street, this (Tuesday) afternoon at 5 o’clock for the South End Cemetery.

LOGGENBERG. The funeral of the late Mary Charlotte LOGGENBERG, aged 35 years, will leave No 2 Gates Street this (Tuesday) afternoon at 3 o’clock for the North End Cemetery.

ERSKINE. – In loving memory of our dear mother and my wife, Harriet Grey, who passed away on September 5th, 1931. Inserted by her husband, Myrtle and Thelma.

KERSWILL – STIBBS. The engagement is announced of Miss Thelma STUBBS, only daughter of Mrs James Ayliff GINGELL and the late Mr STUBBS, of Kimberley, and Mr Kenneth Edward (Tim) KERSWILL. 2nd Lieutenant, South African Air Force, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E.J. KERSWILL, of Johannesburg.

TAYLOR – FERGUSSON. The engagement is announced of Joan FERGUSSON of Port Elizabeth, to Jack TAYLOR, of Melbourne, Australia.


DEATHS.

DOUGLAS-JONES. Passed peacefully away on the 13th March, 1940, Alfred Thomas, beloved husband of Ethel Constance DOUGLAS-JONES. Service in St John’s Church, Walmer, this (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o’clock.

EMMERSON. Shirley Ann, beloved infant daughter of Edith and Norman EMMERSON, passed peacefully away on the 11 inst. at the Children’s Hospital, Johannesburg, aged 14 months.

McCOURT – CORLYON. The engagement is announced of Elsie Lucille, daughter of Mr and Mrs John D. CORLYON, of Parkwood, and Sydney, only son of Mr and Mrs T.J. McCOURT, of Harrismith.

ROMAIN – SMITH. The engagement is announced between Phyllis Doreen SMITH, youngest daughter of Mrs N. Smith and the late Mr T SMITH, and Sergeant ROMAIN of Cape Town.

SANDFORD – YOUNG. The engagement has been announced in London, of Cynthia, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Desmond YOUNG, of Delhi, India, and Christopher, elder son of Major and Mrs G.C. Sanford, of London. Mr and Mrs Desmond YOUNG lived in South Africa for a number of years.

BOOK – HARLEN. Married 5th June, 1940, St Alban’s Cathedral by the Dean of Pretoria, the Very Rev. C.R. RUMBOLD, Maria (Myra) Charlotta Matilda, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs N.H. BOOK, Port Elizabeth, and William Charles, son of Mr and Mrs W.E. HARLEN, Ealing, London.

BORCHARDT – FULLARD. The marriage of Miss Girlie FULLARD, eldest daughter of Mr G.J. FULLARD, M.P. for Kroonstad, and Mrs FULLARD, to Mr Chris BORCHARDT, younger son of Mrs C.F. BORCHARDT and the late Mr BORCHARDT, formerly of Germiston, took place at Boksburg East on Saturday.

BRABY – STEEL. The marriage took place recently of Miss Moyra STEEL, daughter of Mrs A.A. DICKENS and the late Mr Alfred STEEL, to Mr Horace BRABY, of the South African Air Force, son of Mr and Mrs A.C. BRABY of Durban.

CONNACHER – FOURIE. At the Dutch Reformed Church, Port Elizabeth on the 8th June, 1940, Gladys Winifred, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W.L. Fourie, of Sydenham, to Charles Murdoch CONNACHER of Walmer.

DOUGLAS – HANKINSON. The marriage took place in Durban last Saturday of Miss Armorel HANKINSON, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J.H. HANKINSON, to Mr Gordon DOUGLAS, son of Mrs Douglas and the late Rev. Dr. R.B. DOUGLAS.

HAWKINS – MARSH. At St John’s Church, Havelock Street, by Rev KIRKBY on Saturday, June 8th, Thomas HAWKINS, 3rd eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs T.B. HAWKINS, to Phamie Agnes, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr A.E. MARSH, formerly of Uitenhage.

ORSMOND - PERCY. Married in St Barnabas Church on the 8th June, 1940, Phyllis Irene PERCY to John ORSMOND, both of Port Elizabeth.

PERKINS – FEARON. Married at St Mary’s Collegiate Church by the Rev DE L’FAUNCE, on Saturday, 8th June, Leonard Ratcliffe, son of Mrs A. And the late Mr PERKINS and Margaret Lilla Edith, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr D.A.O. FEARON.

TORNBLOW – CORDER. The marriage of Miss Lucia le Sueur CORDER, daughter of Mrs Barbara CORDER, of London, and the late Mr W.J. CORDER, of Grahamstown, and Flight Lieutenant H.A. TORNBLOW, R.A.F., took place in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, on Friday.


DEATHS.

FLOWERS. Died at the Provincial Hospital on the 10th June, 1940, Charles FLOWERS. Aged 45 years. Funeral will leave his late residence, 19 Gardner Street, this (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock, for the South End Cemetery.

GUYDON. Castell Demant passed away suddenly at Shortlands, near Grahamstown, on June 9th. Aged 80 years.

PEARCE. Passed Peacefully away at 26 Geard Street, on the 19th June, 1940, Isaac PEARCE. Aged 87 years. Interred North End Cemetery on the 10th instant.

VERMAAK. To Mr and Mrs J.J. VERMAAK, of Klipplaat, a Daughter on the 1st November, 1940, at Amanda, Naauwpoort.

SENDZUL. Moishe (Maurice), second son of Mr and Mrs A. SENDZUL, 24 Clevedon Road, will read a portion of the Law and Mafter at the Raleigh Street, Synagogue on Saturday, 9th November. At home, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

RUDANSKI. Max passed away suddenly November 3rd at De Aar.
